Statutory Guidance from the Department of Education states that:

  • By the age of 16, every pupil should have had at least one experience of a workplace, in addition to any part-time jobs they may have.

  • By the age of 18, or before the end of their study programme, every student should have had at least one further experience of a workplace, in addition to any part-time jobs they may have.

This is encoded through the Gatsby Benchmarks: experiences of the workplace are essential to acheiving Benchmark 6.

Reimagining Experiences of the Workplace

Gatsby Benchmark 6 states that every student should have first-hand experiences of the workplace through work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience to help their exploration of career opportunities, and expand their networks.
