ARU Peterborough is a brand new university being purpose-built for the region and will welcome its first students in September 2022.

ARU is working with regional businesses to co-create an exciting range of degrees, degree apprenticeships, and training and development courses, ensuring that ARU Peterborough delivers the skills needed by employers.

Being developed in partnership with the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and Peterborough City Council, ARU Peterborough will be at the heart of the city’s new University Quarter and has a mission to raise educational attainment in the region and in turn support business growth and the personal aspirations of the community.

Ranked in the world’s top 350 institutions in the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive, and entrepreneurial education and research.

ARU’s academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 12 of our research areas assessed as world leading. Our impactful research tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to the communities we serve.

Key provision

ARU Peterborough aims to transform a region that has long been a higher education “cold spot”.

Compared to the national average, fewer people in the area progress to degree level education and unemployment is higher, especially among young people. Peterborough is in the bottom 10 percent for skills levels in the UK, with skills growth failing to match the city’s rapid increase in population.

When in opens in September 2022, ARU Peterborough will begin its mission of raising aspirations and redressing the local skills gap, which will help improve Peterborough’s future prosperity and support business growth.

It wants to encourage a more diverse student population and hopes young people, and more mature students who may not have considered a university education, will be inspired by the opportunities available.

The Degrees and Degree Apprenticeships on offer at ARU Peterborough have been co-created with the region’s employers to ensure that graduates will have the qualifications and skills in demand. Courses will be available in a range of formats including full-time, part-time, placement year options, and some include a level-3 foundation year to enable talented students who don’t meet the entry requirements to start their degree journeys.

Students can take courses in a range of subjects aligned to the industries and job sectors in the region, from Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, to Engineering, Law, Business, Computer Science, Gaming and Agriculture.
