Opportunity for employers to support young futures with new Talent Pledge

Published on 08 March 2022

Are you an employer in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough? Could you volunteer time to support, inspire and educate young people in their future careers?

On 7th March, as part of National Careers Week 2022, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Dr Nik Johnson launched a new talent pledge. The pledge and charter encourages employers to pledge support to young people by offering a range of opportunities to gain experiences of the workplace and inspire their future careers.

Boosting skills levels and job prospects

One of the impacts of Covid-19 has been significant disruption to education and limited access to experiences of work. Being informed of career opportunities at a young age forms an important part of careers education which boosts skills levels and job prospects and helps to reduce the numbers of young people not in employment, education or training (NEET).

In addition to this, creating opportunities for work experience builds the pipeline of skilled, motivated young people needed for businesses to thrive.

60% of apprentices that join Morgan Sindall Construction in the East of England have been engaged via our educational engagement programme and 70% of those apprentices have completed work experience with us, prior to joining.

This engagement is changing the diversity of our apprentices, 50% of apprentices that joined us in 2021 were women, compared to 13% in the industry.

It is vital for us to engage with students whilst they are in education to create a diverse talent pipeline for the industry’s future.”
