Turning Point for Employers

Funding for internships & training in Fenland and Peterborough

Turning Point provides innovative support through funding for internships & training.

Employers can access support via our Turning Point project to support new talent or train existing staff through funding to support high quality internships and short-course training that is not funded elsewhere.

Employers with hard to fill vacancies, a recruitment need and those wishing to provide an opportunity for prospective employees to see inside their business are encouraged to set up internships.  High quality internships enable you to gain a new, motivated member of the team, bring innovation, ideas and skills. 

Any Turning Point funded Internships will need to follow the guidance set out in CIPD's Internship that work, here is our guide. This guide ensure's that employers provide the best possible experience for interns, and gain maximum benefit of having interns in the business.  We want to help ensure that the internships are a high quality experience for interns and employers.

How does it work

We expect internships to include:

  • An effective and fair recruitment process: We can support by providing a platform for you to list your internship vacancy, and match individuals that sign up to search for opportunities.
  • Payment: Paying interns prevents the exclusion of those that are unable to work for free. We can support by providing a grant of £5,000 to cover the salary of the intern while they are with you.
  • Induction: An induction process is beneficial for all new starters, including interns, to ensure they are effective quickly.
  • Fair treatment: Treat your intern(s) as you would any member of staff.
  • Supervision: Look after your intern, and help them understand what they are doing well, and where they can improve – this is a learning experience for them. We can help by providing access to Learning Mentor modules to support your staff in their role of mentor to the intern.
  • Reference & Feedback: Provide regular feedback through a review process, including a final review meeting at the end of the internship.
