SSW helps support SMEs to upskill their employees with training courses to grow their business

The Skills Support for the Workforce programme (SSW) helps support small & medium businesses in Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough to upskill their employees with training courses & qualifications to help their business grow. We can support current employees who need to upskill, employees on furlough that are returning to work, or new recruits that need training, including employees enrolled on the Kickstart scheme.

Skills Support for Redundancy (SSR) is an initiative designed to support employers and individuals affected by redundancy. SSR is a tailored service to meet your needs, offering a wide range of training support. A dedicated Partnership Coordinator will work with you to identify the best sources of support and training to help you achieve your career goals and get back to work.

Both SSW and SSR are co-financed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and the European Social Fund, so businesses can access a wide range of funded training.

As a direct result of accessing the SSW funding, the contract has supported 1956 learners in the region:

204 have progressed into Education
248 have progressed within work
9 have progressed into an apprenticeship

Businesses can access fully-funded opportunities to upskill and progress employees

SSW can work with your business to develop a bespoke training programme relevant to your business needs, and as the SSW programme is co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), a wide range of training can be accessed at no cost to your business.

SSW works with a network of expert training providers to deliver a range of fully-funded and accredited training courses covering a range of subjects including IT & Digital Skills, Leadership and Management, Construction, Food/ Food Manufacturing , Logistics and Life Sciences, Health and Social care, Customer Service and many more.

An intro to Skills Support for the Workforce

The following eligibility criteria applies for anyone accessing support through Skills Support for the Workforce in Greater Cambridge And Greater Peterborough:

  • The learner must be employed by the organisation (or self-employed)
  • The learner must be eligible to work in the UK – evidence will be required
  • The learner must be aged 16+
  • The training must be delivered within the LEP region and by one of the contracted SSW
